Davenport - Lois Stearns, 89, of Davenport, died June 19, 2011, at her home in Davenport. Services in celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2011, at the First Christian Church, 510 E. 15th Street, Davenport. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the family.
Mrs. Stearns was born in 1922 in Davenport, to Ernest and Kate Daasch. She married Reynold Stearns on April 28, 1948, in Davenport. He died September 21, 2009. She devoted her life to raising her family, who gave her the greatest enjoyment. In her earlier years she spent every Friday evening at her sister's home playing "Royal Rummy" for hours. It has since become the family tradition for her and her family to play on every holiday or when the family was together. Lois loved to decorate her home and took great pride in showing it to anyone who walked through the doors. She would always say, "I'll give you the grand tour." She also enjoyed remembering good times by scrapbooking pictures and showing them to her friends. Lois enjoyed tending to her yard and flowers, where there were always bird feeders and houses to enjoy. Summers were enjoyed on the porch with family and friends who would drop by to visit. Her church family at First Christian Church was an important part of her life. Sunday afternoons were spent eating out after church and enjoying a Sunday drive.
Survivors include her daughter, Sue (Ron) Burke of Davenport, and her children, Mike McClimans of San Jose, Calif., and Brian McClimans of Bettendorf; and daughter-in-law, Diana Schreck of Naples, Fla., and her children, Cindy Crouse of Naples, Fla., and Steve (Dottie) Schreck of Woodstock, Georgia. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jim, and sisters, Velma Katherin Daasch and Mildred Schiffke.
