John M. "Jack" Martins, 74, of Gilberts died Thursday, April 4, 2002 at the St. Alexius Medical Center, Hoffman Estates.
He was born in Postville, Iowa on January 18, 1928. He was the son of John and Hilda (nee Meyer) Martins.
He was a former many year resident of Dubuque, Iowa and a former 25 year employee of the Dubuque Meat Packing Co. Following his retirement from Dubuque Meats, Jack along with his wife owned and operated an antique store. He also worked as a general contractor building and rehabbing homes.
Jack will be remembered as a guy who was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone without being asked. He did it joyfully with a smile on his face.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Beverly J. (nee Dull) Martins.
They married on September 14, 1948. Ten children, John "Russ" (Rosa) of Gilberts, David (Mary) of Belvidere, Edward (Jennifer) of Lena, IL, Quenton (Sarah) of Marengo, Benton (Toni) of Carpentersville and Michael (Kristen) of Carpentersville, Twyla (Sean) McLaughlin of Lexington, KY, Vicky (James) Easley of Cooksville, TN, Marietta (Bob) Sievert of Gainesville, GA and Teresa (David) Kieffer of Belvidere, Jack and Bev also raise a grandson, Davy Martins of Rockford.
Twenty-six grandchildren; one great-grandson; four brothers, Bernard, Virgil, Jerald and Stanley all of Postville, Iowa; two sisters, Mary Baglin of MN and Janice Martins of Chicago.
Funeral Services will be on Monday at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Peter Lutheran Church, 18 N. 377 Galligan Road, Dundee. Burial will follow in the Dundee Twp. East Cemetery, East Dundee.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 1-5 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and on Monday from 9:00 a.m. in the church prior to services.
