- ROLAND "ROLLIE" A. NIEBUHR
Rollie’s earthly existence ended on May 6, 2020 and his soul is now with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
He was born in La Crosse on April 23, 1942, the son of the late Walter and Pluma (Nee: White) Niebuhr. After graduating from La Crosse Central in 1960, he served his plumbing apprenticeship in his father’s business, Niebuhr Plumbing Heating and Air Conditioning. After he received his journeyman’s license he served as La Crosse City Plumbing Inspector for two and a half years, following which he returned to the family business.
Rollie met his wife to be, Joan Syslack, who was attending UWL and followed her to Racine in 1971. They married on July 29, 1972. They enjoyed boating and fishing on Lake Michigan for many years. After running his own business in Racine, upon the time of his death of his brother in 1987, his mother asked him to return home to La Crosse to take over the family business, which was founded in 1900. Under Rollie’s leadership, he and Joan built the business to become the prominent local company for primarily residential remodel and repair. In 2016, he sold the business to three employees and retired.
Rollie enjoyed growing flowers from seed, driving "and plowing snow" in his ATV and was an avid Packer fan.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joan; sister, Elizabeth (Robert) Bailey of La Crosse; brothers-in-law, Jeff (Mary) Syslack of Brookfield and Robert (Connie) Syslack, of Somers; and many dear cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, James (Harriet) Niebuhr and sister-in-law, Sandra Syslack Francis.
In response to the Covid 19 situation a private ceremony will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery, La Crosse, WI.
The family would like to thank all of the highly skilled physicians and nurses for the excellent and compassionate care Rollie received at Gundersen Health System. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Salvation Army, 223 N 8th Street, La Crosse, WI 54601.
