CASSVILLE, Wis. - Joan L. Klein, 72, of Cassville, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, at home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at the Lancaster United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mary Ann Floerke officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, at Schwartz Funeral Home, Lancaster. Friends also may call after 9:30 a.m. Thursday, at the church.
She was born on March 27, 1938, in Prairie du Chien, daughter of William and Mary (Harwood) Dechow. She attended Elwell Grade School in Waterloo Township and graduated from Cassville High School in 1955. She married Lawrence A. Klein on Sept. 8, 1962, at her parent's home in Waterloo Township. Joan worked in the dietary department at Orchard Manor Nursing Home for more than 30 years. She was a member of United Methodist Church in Beetown and Cassville. Joan enjoyed cooking, baking, camping, fishing, reading, swimming and going out for Chinese food and garage sales.
Surviving are her husband, Lawrence A. Klein, of Cassville; children, Vicki (Robert) Gengler and Michelle (Don) Bennett, both of Lancaster, Dave (Rochelle) Klein, of Athens, Shawn (Jen) Klein, of Denver, Annette Klein, of Cassville, and Dan (Michelle) Klein, of Bloomington; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Calvin (Lois) Dechow, of Cassville; her mother-in-law, Esther Klein, of Cassville; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant twin sister; a great-grandson, Andrew Bahl; and a brother, Robert Dechow.
