    Notizen:

Frederick was born in Bevenson, Hanover, Germany. His father, Christian Schenk, died in Germany in June 1868. Frederick's mother was Marie (or Catherine) Meyer. She came to America with Frederick in the fall of 1868, probably lived in Reedsburg or Loganville, Sauk Co., Wisconsin, with a daughter, her burial info is not confirmed.
Was a tall, cheerful man, and was very musical. He played the violin and trumpet. He played in Lueders' Band in Madison. When Matilda was a baby, he was working on construction of the new capitol in Madison. In late 1878 he bought and managed the Empire Prairie House, an inn at Leeds. It's location was at the intersection of the two highways, in the southwest corner of Section 21. During his ownership, the building was enlarged and a dance hall was added. He would send out printed invitations to dances and picnics and people would attend from far and wide. Sometimes a band would come from Madison. He also built an ice house, and in winter, workers would cut ice from Token Creek and later from ponds at Poynette, and haul it the the ice house where it was packed in straw to use in the coming summer months. The inn sold in 1893, then he moved to Madison and started a lumber yard. The first land he bought later became known as "Schenk's Corners". He also had a livery stable and owned a tavern across the street from it.
