Funeral services for Milo Harnack were held on Thursday, June 22, 2006, at United Pentecostal Church in Marathon, Iowa with Pastor Doug Enger and Pastor Richard White officiating. Organist was Madeline Reuter.

Milo Louie Harnack, the son of Louie and Mary Schroeder Harnack, was born September 28, 1925, in rural Postville, Iowa. He received his early education from rural Postville School. Milo entered the United States Army on August 29, 1952 in Des Moines, Iowa. While serving his country, Milo received the Korean Service medal, Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, Silver Star and Greek Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, Silver Star and the Greek Medallion from the King Of Greece. Milo was Honorably Discharged on May 28, 1954 at Camp Carson, Colorado.

On January 7, 1956, Milo married Barbara Joan McMeekan in Postville, Iowa. To this union a daughter, Marjorie, was born. Following their marriage they lived in the communities of Calmar, Mt. Pleasant, Storm Lake, Alta and Marathon. Milo farmed in his earlier years before working for 25 years for the Iowa Department of Transportation. Following his retirement, Milo drove truck for Gillis Ag and HyLine. Milo also worked at Wal-Mart as a greeter. On September 25, 2001, Milo married Ruth Ogden in Rossie, Iowa. Following their marriage they resided in Gillette Grove, IA. Milo served as Chaplin for the V.F.W. Clay County Post #3159 of Spencer, was a member of the American Legion Glen Pederson Post #1 of Spencer, and was a lifetime member of the Order Of The Purple Heart and V.F.W.

On June 18, 2006, Milo passed away at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 80. He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Barbara, brothers: Orville, Harlan and his twin brother, Merlin.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Webb, Iowa; his daughter and her husband, Marjorie Irene and Terry Nading of Marathon, Iowa; stepchildren Gene Pate and his wife Debbie, of Midlothian, VA, and Gloria Fitzpatrick and her husband Bob of Milford, IA; two nephews; one niece; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Casket bearers were Chris Jackson, Robert Smith, Wayne Markley, Marlin Harnack, Judy Harnack, and Clifford Harnack. Honorary casket bearers were Lee and Alyce Shatto. Military Services were provided by Marathon American Legion Post #12, VFW Clay County Post #3159, and American Legion Glen Pederson Post #1. Interment was at Poland Township Cemetery in Marathon, Iowa.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, in St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Beaverton, for Gerald T. Kluth, who died Dec. 8 at age 77. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, in Ocean Park Lutheran Church, Ocean Park, Wash.

Mr. Kluth was born May 9, 1920, in Aurora County, S.D. He served in the Army Air Forces during World War II. He worked as a tour-bus driver at Yellowstone National Park, attended Montana State College and worked at a smelter in Helena, Mont. Mr. Kluth worked at a Portland-area electrical firm as a machine operator and sub-contract coordinator for almost 24 years. He married Ruth in 1950, and they moved in 1958 to Newberg to operate a filbert and walnut farm. In 1960, they moved to Portland and in 1990 to Ocean Park. Theyoperated Adult Family Home in Ocean Park. He was president of the AARP chapter and a member of Ocean Park Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Wendy Bircher of Farmington, N.M.; sons, Jeff of Beaverton, Daryl of Forest Grove and Lee of Everett, Wash.; brother, Sam of Portland; sister, Wanda Asay of Twin Falls, Idaho; and seven grandchildren.

The family suggests remembrances to the Peninsula Senior Center in Ocean Park. Arrangements are by Finley's Sunset Hills Mortuary.

5895 Mrs Sarah Jane Lichtenberger, 77, resident of the Bradshaw community for many years, passed away Sunday morning at 10:30 o’clock at the home of her sone, Cleon, four miles north and two miles west of Bradshaw. Death followed an extended illness.

Mrs Lichtenberger was born in Illinois April 20, 1866. She was a resident of the Bradshaw community for 61 years.

Surviving are two sons, Joe and Cleon of Bradshaw; one daughter and three sisters.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Fennimore. Joint burial with her husband Robert will be Friday in St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery.

DAVENPORT - Funeral services for Violet L. Wise, 91, of Davenport, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2009, at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary chapel in Davenport. Interment will follow at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the mortuary. Mrs. Wise died on Monday, November 2, 2009, at ManorCare Nursing Center in Davenport.

Violet Lucille Wiedow was born in Victor, Iowa, on January 15, 1918, the daughter of Charles and Velda (Forney) Wiedow. She married Hobart W. Wise on January 30, 1943, in Kahoka, Mo. He preceded her in death on June 16, 1995. Mrs. Wise was a housewife, homemaker and most of all Mom to her two children. She loved cooking and gardening. She was a member of the Northside Baptist Church in Davenport.

She is survived by a daughter, Rita (Doyle) Rockey, of Davenport; a son, Jack (Judy) Wise, of Sidney, Ohio; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Betty, Alice, Adena, and Helen, and two brothers, Harold and Clark.

5898 Mrs. Lena Greve, well known resident of Brillion town, died at the Emil Boettcher home last Thursday. She was born in the town of Schleswig, in Manitowoc Co., in 1865. With her husband she resided on the farm near here for many years, but in 1918 she was bereft of his companionship and for some years she continued to conduct the farm with the help of her son, Arthur and then about a year ago, he too departed this life.
She is now survived only by two sisters, Mrs. Sophie Filyes and Mrs. August Timm both of Brillion.
The funeral was held last Sunday services being conducted at the Kasson Lutheran church, and interment was in the Bluff cemetery.

5899 Muchow,Wm.,one of the early pioneer settlers of the Hartford vicinity,was born in Germany Sept.8,1858. He came to United States in 1873 and lived in Iowa till 1876.He then left Iowa came to the state of South Dakota.He took up a claim and homesteaded on a farm five miles south west of Hartford,located in Wall Lake Township, legally described as the Southwest quarter of section 5.

A few years later, he married Amelia Mahl who came with her parents to the United States from Germany.They crossed the Atlantic Ocean in a sailboat,which took them eight weeks. They ran out of food,and supplies,before reaching land.They first located in Clayton County,Iowa near Postville. Later they came to South Dakota, travelling by covered wagons, which proved to be a difficult trip.There were no bridges across any of the rivers or streams in those days. They suffered many hardships settling in a new land, trying to make a living,build churches,schools,towns,roads etc. A school house was built on the Wm Muchow farm, approximately forty rods east of where Earle Geides house now stands. He served as clerk on the school board and on the township boards for several terms. The family of Wm. Muchow and Amelia Muchow were Louis Muchow,Fred Muchow,Otto Muchow,W.C. Muchow,Ella Muchow Schievelbein, Selma Muchow Meves and Milly Muchow Schmidt.

Later as the family began to grow up and could help out with farming,William bought more land and expanded. He purchased farms in Section 27-31 and 33, all in Hartford township.

WILLIAM MUCHOW, PIONEER, IS DEAD

Lived in Wall Lake Township 61 years----Came to the United States from Germany.

William Muchow, 77 years old,pioneer retired farmer and father of Mrs. Cliff Schmidt of Sioux Falls,died at a local hospital late Monday afternoon.Mr. Muchow had been a resident of Wall Lake Township for 61 years.

A native of Germany,he came to the United States as a boy and first settled in Iowa.Mr. Muchow came to South Dakota from that state and was one of the oldest residents of the Wall Lake Township community.

He is survived by the widow,four sons;W.C. of Hartford,Louis of Lahabre,Calif., Fred of Hartford and O.W. of Fullerton,Calif.:three daughters,Mrs. Henry Schievelbein,Hartford; Mrs. Cliff Meves,Hartford, and Mrs.Schmidt of this city;seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o`clock Thursday afternoon at the family residence and 2 o`clock at the East Wall Lake Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the East Wall Lake Church cemetery,under the direction of the Miller Funeral Home.
