5806 | MADISON - Merlin C. "Merle" Goth, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, with his family by his side. He was born on Jan. 5, 1928, in Madison, the son of Clarence and Josephine (Kempfer) Goth. Merle was a veteran of World War II and served with the occupation troops in Korea. He was employed with Oscar Mayer for 33 years. He was married to Lois Carpenter in 1948, and she preceded him in death in 1965. On April 22, 1978, Merle married Angie Statz. He enjoyed volunteering for several organizations in the Dane County Area. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling, reading (mostly biographies and autobiographies), listening to most types of music, and watching the stock market. Merle is survived by his wonderful and caring wife and partner, Angie; two sons, Norm and Scott; four step-children, Ramona Whiteaker, Steve Statz, Linda (James) Williams, and Karen Estep; 12 step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carol Damson and Vera Carpenter; and five brothers, Sheldon (Freda), Ronald (Hazel), Gary (Claudette), Delmar (Rosie), and Howard (Lorraine). He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois; son, Larry; daughter-in-law, Mary; sister, Shirley; and brothers-in-law, Bill Heath and Paul Damson. 5815 | Martha was born in Wall Lake Township, Minnehaha County, South Dakota, to Johann Jürgen Heinrich "Henry" Muchow and Amelia Bruce. Martha's mother died when she was about 3 days old and she was raised by her grandparents George and Mary (Schultz) Bruce. She married August Knodt on 9 June 1904 in Hartford, and their children were Thelma Marie and Mardella Margaret. August died in 1929. On 20 April 1932 Martha married Walter Frederick Rittman at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. No children were born to them. Walter died on 5 May 1949. In the early 1960's Martha sold her home in Sioux Falls and relocated to her daughter Thelma's home in West Union, Iowa. 5816 | Mary Albertine Harnack was born October 10, 1871 in Farmersburg township, Clayton county, Iowa, the daughter of Christian Harnack and his wife Dorothea Sass Harnack. She was baptized in the Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center, Iowa on February 16, 1872. She was confirmed in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville on March 29, 1885, and remained a member of this church until her death. She was married to Henry Brandt in December 1888. They had three children, Walter Brandt, formerly of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Velma, Mrs. Lester Neverman of Waukon; and a girl, who died in infancy. Henry Brandt passed away in 1898. She was married to John Schroeder on December 18, 1906. They had a son, Gilbert Schroeder of Postville. John Schroeder passed away in 1933. She died on December 5, 1959 at the age of 88 years, one month and 25 days. Funeral services were held at the Schutte Funeral Home on Monday, December 7, 1959. Burial was at the Postville Cemetery with the Rev. Charles E. Witt, officiating. She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; one son, Walter Brandt; one infant daughter; two sisters, Mrs. August Dahl of Postville and Mrs. John Krambeer of Postville; and one brother, John Harnack of Postville. She was survived by one daughter, Velma, Mrs. Lester Neverman of Waukon; and one son, Gilbert Schroeder of Postville; two sisters, Anna, Mrs. Joe Schultz of Waukon, and Emma, Mrs. Louis Meyer of Postville; five grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. | HARNACK, Mary Albertine (I50538)

5832 | Merlin Harnack Funeral services for Merlin Harnack were held Monday, December 19, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. The Reverend Steve Brackett officiated. Joann Martins was the organist. Casket Bearers were: Clifford Harnack, Judy Harnack, Marje Nading, Mike Upton, Ronald Upton, Leslie Upton, Kenneth Upton, and Duane Berger. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Merlin Carl John Harnack was born September 28, 1925, to Louis and Mary (Schroeder) Harnack, near Postville, Iowa. He passed away Friday morning, December 16, 2005, in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, Iowa, at the age of 80 years, 2 months and 21 days. He was baptized on October 15, 1925, by the Reverend E. T. Finck and confirmed November 13, 1938, by the Reverend Frederick R. Ludwig, both in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. He attended a rural school near Postville. On April 24, 1966 Merlin was married to LaVila Jane Berger in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Volga, Iowa, by the Reverend Roger Buhr. Merlin was employed as a Policeman for the City of Postville for many years. He also drove school bus for Postville Community Schools for a number of years. Merlin was active in the community, serving as a volunteer Fireman and on the Big Four Fair Board. He was a member of the Brotherly Love Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed watching sports. Some of his favorite teams included the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Cubs. Merlin also had a love for fishing. You could often find him fishing in his boat near their cabin at Harpers Ferry. Merlin will be remembered as a good friend who was very helpful and loved to joke with his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harlan and Orville Harnack.
